Last weekend we braved the unusual Dubai rain to watch the UAE premiere of Smurfs: The Lost Village at MOTIONGATE Dubai which is one of the 3 theme parks at the recently opened Dubai Park and Resorts. When the afternoon begins with Smurfs’ Vanilla ice-cream from London Dairy and face painting you cannot go wrong!

The Hollywood Theatre at MOTIONGATE Dubai was the location for the fun-filled premiere.

Smurfs: The Lost Village is a fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs where a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious long-lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does.

All are welcome except of course Gargamel!

These days many animated movies seem to be targeted far too much towards adults with the younger audience missing out on much of the dry humour and sarcasm, the Smurfs movie is just honest to goodness kiddie fun! Liam (5) could not contain his excitement throughout the movie and I’m very grateful there were so many kids in the cinema as I would have been hard pressed to contain his enthusiasm. Overall, both boys enjoyed the action and adventure of the movie with Joshua cackling several times at the jokes and then bravely trying not to cry towards the end of the movie (fear not, happy ending is guaranteed). This goes down as a favourite of theirs and I’ve already been asked when we’re watching it again!

After the movie, we got to explore MOTIONGATE Dubai which if you have not heard is home to a real life Smurf Village! By this time the rain had returned so made a rather hasty fly by with Smurf hats secure on our heads (because why would I pack an umbrella in the desert)?

Smurfs Village
Complete with mushroom houses who could not be enthralled with the Smurfs Village!

MOTIONGATE Dubai is full of rides and attractions for young and old (there are loads of activities suitable for younger kiddies); live shows and performances and some great merchandising stores! There are also 9 different dining options within the park including, of course, the Very Smurfy Cafe!

So because, of course, by the end of the day the boys had almost turned blue they were that Smurfs obsessed, I thought I’d put together some activities for them to enjoy during the holidays. Feel free to have a look and download as you need!
