Being a Dubai Mom is often synonymous with soft play areas because let’s be honest for several month it is scorching hot outside and even on those cooler days containing your herd is often easier said than done! Prior to moving to the UAE, we had absolutely no concept of soft play areas, in South Africa, it’s just unheard of. The weather is usually pleasant enough for outdoor play and while this play is less often in public parks these days, a large portion of families live in houses with gardens and space for play. Being an expat family means adjusting to your location and finding the gems to help your family adapt and thrive.

For us, Fun City is one of those of those gems and lucky for us they have 17 gems scattered throughout the UAE. Seven of those are in Dubai which means regardless of where you stay and whether or not you are limited to metro links or own transport, you’re bound not to be too far from a location.

The boys were recently invited to visit Fun City in Oasis Centre which was a great way to chase them out of bed when they were still recovering from the end of the school holidays 🙂 The Oasis Centre location is one of the larger branches in the UAE (and the biggest in Dubai) and includes a Play Zone, Fun and Learn, Big Rides, Kiddie Rides, Game Machines as well as the option to host your child’s birthday party. It is pretty much an all-in-one stop for parents with kiddies ages 0 – 12 and one of the few we have found that genuinely caters to both the tots and the older kids so is a super option when your family falls into multiple age group.

Play Zone:

The Play Zone area is a quintessential soft play area for kiddies over the age of 4. Provided they are over the height restrictions, older kiddos are allowed to enter unaccompanied, this for me is such a plus as it allows the boys to have fun being kids, while I have some semblance of fun doing chores like the groceries without yelling, bribing or embarrassing tantrums. The play area set up will vary between branches, but the boys loved the slides and the soft ball “cannons” as they dubbed them. I loved that it was spotless inside and moms, dads and nannies can easily accompany the kids through all the obstacles and be big kids for a while.

Fun and Learn:

For obvious reasons (neither boy is under 4), we didn’t spend any time in this area, but I did have a snoop while they were distracted with air hockey. The Fun and Learn area is perfect for toddlers exploring gross motor skills, role-playing and general monkeying around. It is spacious, and again spotless and has a wide variety of activities for that wonderful age where they have the attention span of a newt.

Arcade:

Joshua is getting to that age where this is by far his favourite spot. They had dance offs, played air hockey, fished for dinosaurs and sliced up enough virtual fruit for a monster fruit salad. There is a great split of games for different age groups and interests. Not to worry, it’s simple enough to distract the younger kids away for the first person shooting games (they did make a turn at blasting zombies with Dad around though!) The various games have different price tags associated with them, however, if you visit on Fun Day Monday, kiddie rides, big rides and video games are only AED 1 which is such a bargain.

Big Rides:

Liam made a bee-line for the water ride and both monkeys spent and inordinate amount of time on this ride going round and round and screaming at the top of their lungs when the boat goes through the little dip. This is one of the 5 big rides available at the Oasis Centre branch.

The Verdict:

Fun City checks a lot of the boxes for parents in the UAE. Whether you’re a parent of littles that stay at home and need constant entertainment, or bigger kids that need space and activities to blow off some steam, this place has you covered. They offer great value and with all the current promotions are a perfect way to curb some of the costs of keeping the kids entertained in Dubai.
